Research Center

Research activities are carried out at the dosimetry laboratory

at Institute of Physics - University of São Paulo

Thermoluminescence (TL) and radioluminescence (RL) have been used extensively to evaluate materials for dosimetry application. An integrated TL/RL measurement system has been developed. RL will provide insight into the nature of the luminescence centers and thus to complement TL in the development of new luminescent dosimeters. The TL/RL involves three main components: heating, ionizing radiation, and light collection systems. Supported by São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP, Grant #2019/05915-3 and #2021/00626-3).

Facilities

  • Batch mill for 2 different grinding procedures: Impact grinding of hard, brittle or non-elastic grinding materials with high-grade stainless steel beater. This beater can be used for a Mohs hardness up to 6 (FAPESP, Grant #2019/05915-3).

  • High-temperature muffle furnace: This muffle allows several programming options: up to 32 steps programable and PID automatic control. Working temperature range:100°C to 1200°C (Grant IFSP/IFSULDEMINAS).

  • UV Cabinet:  The UV cabinet darkroom provides a large effective capacity and UV power intensity (6W). The darkroom is supplied with lamps (254 nm and 365 nm) and allows different lighting possibilities according to the user’s choice (Grant IFSP/IFSULDEMINAS).

  • Analytical Balance: Semi-analytical scale, capacity 440g, sensitivity 0.001g, with hood.  Liquid Crystal Digital Display (LCD). Available weighing units: g, kg and ct (Grant IFSP/IFSULDEMINAS).

  • Laboratory Magnetic Stirrer: Mini Digital Magnetic Stirrer, Laboratory Mixer Mixer Plate Control with Stir Bar 0-3000RPM (Grant IFSP/IFSULDEMINAS).
